Course Description - P G Diploma in Paediatric Nutrition (PDPN)| MedMaster
The Post Graduate Diploma in Paediatric Nutrition is a specialized clinical program designed to provide healthcare professionals with the expertise required to manage the unique nutritional needs of humans from birth through adolescence. Unlike adult nutrition, Paediatric dietetics must account for rapid physiological growth, developmental milestones, and the maturation of the digestive and immune systems. This course offers a deep dive into neonatal nutrition, breastfeeding support, and the transition to solid foods (weaning), ensuring a strong foundation for lifelong health.
The Post Graduate Diploma in Paediatric Nutrition offers knowledge and skill up gradation among students/healthcare professionals as dietitians/doctors/Paediatricians. They will get a deeper insight of nutrition right from infants up to adolescents. This will help students to work on their niche as Paediatric nutritionist in institutions, health organizations or with Paediatricians.
Key Highlights:
- Life-Stage Specific Nutrition: -Tailored dietary strategies for neonates, infants, toddlers, and teenagers.
- NICU & Critical Care: -Specialized training in enteral and parenteral nutrition for preterm and critically ill infants.
- Growth Monitoring: -Mastery of WHO growth charts and anthropometric measurements to identify nutritional risks early.
- Career-Defining Benefits - The PGDip is often seen as a "bridge" between clinical practice and executive leadership
- Allergy & Intolerance Management: - Clinical protocols for managing cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA), celiac disease, and lactose intolerance.
- Fast-Track Qualification: - Unlike a full Master's (MSc), a PGDip typically skips the 6–9 month research dissertation, allowing you to gain the qualification faster—often in just 12 months.
- Neurodevelopmental Nutrition:-Exploring the link between specific nutrients (like DHA and Iron) and brain development.
The objective of this programme is to recognize nutrition and challenges in adopting these nutrition policies in infancy, growth period, diseased conditions, preterm infants, breast feeding and complementary feeding. On completion of this programme students will be able to explain the growth patterns of infants, micronutrient and macronutrient requirements from infancy to adolescence. Also, they will be aware of nutrition during diseased condition.
Course Objectives:
- To train professionals in conducting detailed nutritional assessments for children with varying growth velocities.
- To develop the ability to create individualized meal plans for chronic Paediatric conditions like cystic fibrosis or epilepsy (ketogenic diets).
- To equip practitioners with the tools to prevent the "double burden" of malnutrition—stunting and childhood obesity.
- To interpret Paediatric blood panels and correlate them with nutrient deficiencies or metabolic errors.
- To develop strategies for managing "picky eating," sensory food aversions, and eating disorders in adolescents.
The Post Graduate Diploma in Paediatric Nutrition is available to Graduates in Nutrition and Dietetics, Home Science, or Food Science. Medical professionals holding degrees such as MBBS, BAMS, BHMS, or BDS are also highly encouraged to apply, as the curriculum complements their existing clinical knowledge with specialized Paediatric insights. In some cases, registered nursing professionals (B.Sc Nursing) or those with a degree in related health sciences are considered, provided they have an interest in infant and adolescent healthcare.
